Richard Cullen joined Torridon after serving for four years as Counselor of Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin. Before his service with Gov. Youngkin for whom he was chief legal and a key policy advisor, Mr. Cullen had a national white collar practice advising companies and individuals often in high profile investigations and other matters involving the Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission, U.S. Congress and state attorneys general.

He spent four decades with McGuireWoods where he helped build its national white collar and government investigations practice and was the firm’s Chairman from 2006 to 2017. He left the firm to join the Youngkin Administration. While in private practice Mr. Cullen represented clients in the Mueller investigation, Boeing in the two 737 Max crashes, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay in the Abramoff investigation, the chairman of BP America in the Deep Water Horizon oil spill and Sepp Blatter the then- president of the Federation Internationale de Football Association. He successfully represented the parents of Otto Warmbier the University of Virginia student in a suit against the government of North Korea for fatal injuries suffered while their son was held captive in a North Korean prison.

Mr. Cullen has also had a distinguished career in public service serving at the Attorney General of Virginia (1997-98), the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Viginia (1991-93) and as a special Senate counsel during the Iran Contra investigation (1987-88.)

Mr. Cullen received his undergraduate degree from Furman where he played varsity football and years later chaired its Board of Trustees and his law degree from the University of Richmond where he was the editor in chief of the law review.generations.
